I worked for Susan G. Komen on a 9 month contract from December 2010 until August 2011. I worked as a Web Designer, level 2. I was responsible for working very closely with our Marketing Department, especially with the talented Katrina McGhee and Marty Holtman. My duties included creating web sites from scratch, attending executive board meetings to consult on I/T issues, and to assist in marketing objectives during multi-million dollar campaigns.

As a designer, I was responsible for custom graphics, writing code: HTML, CSS, Javascript, JQuery, and .NET, as well as working with .Net developers.

I worked with various CMS software, to include Ektron and Stellent, by Oracle. Daily tasks involved editing various domains and sub-domains at Komen.org. Below are examples of the work I created and projects I worked on while at Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

A splash page to promote the Be Bold Campaign, promoting our races: Race for the Cure, Marathon for the Cure, and 3 Day for the Cure. This design appeared in multiple magazines nationwide.

The Queens of Keeping it Real Campaign:

The Queens of Keeping it Real campaign was a multi-million dollar ad campaign aimed at bringing breast cancer awareness to young, black women. 5 celebrities were brought on board to get the word out:

  • Carla Ferrell - Program director and co-host of the Steve Harvey Morning Show
  • Ebony Steele - Co-host of the Rickey Smiley Morning Show
  • Sybil Wilkes - Journalist and co-host of the Tom Joyner Morning Show
  • DeDe McGuire - Co-host of nationally syndicated afternoon radio shows in San Antonio, Chicago, Philly and Dallas.
  • Cafe Mocha - Creators and stars of a syndicated radio show, to include the famous MC Lyte - a record breaking female rap arist.

The campaign required numerous brainstorming sessions with the marketing department to launch the campaign from the ground up. A website was needed to promote the campaign, to be launched from the current www.circleofpromise.com site. Circleofpromise.com was chosen because it is the current campaign aimed at African-American women, which offered the best platform from which to promote our sub-site.

Ultimately, a website was created, a quiz to teach users and to reward them for doing well, and a 'take home' downloadable as a reward.

The top banner add was created in order to guide users to either take the quiz regarding breast cancer awareneess, to meet the celebrities we labelled as "queens," or to join the circle of promise.

The "Meet the Queens" link from the CircleofPromise website takes us to a page which describes our celebrities.

The link to take the quiz brings us to the screen shot below. This is a javascript quiz based on a JQuery framework.
